Slipknot, formed in 1995, is a heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa. The band’s early days consisted of changing band members before settling on a group of nine members that stayed together for over a decade.
Slipknot’s popularity rose quickly between 1999 and 2004 when the band released three albums: Slipknot in 1999, Iowa in 2001 and Vol. 3 in 2004. The band took a four-year break before releasing their fourth studio album, titled All Hope is Gone in 2008.
The band’s most recent album is the .5 The Gray Chapter, which was released in 2014.
.5 The Gray Chapter was nominated for the Best Rock Album during the 2015 Grammy Awards.
The band has won a total of 25 awards, including 1 Grammy Award, 3 Total Guitar Readers Awards, 4 Metal Hammer Golden God Awards, 5 Revolver Golden Gods Awards and 7 Kerrang! Awards.
The band has been nominated, but has never won awards from: the Echo Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Fuse Awards.
Joey Jordison, a member of the band, left Slipknot after 18 years at the end of 2013.
Slipknot’s Shawn Crahan has been open about the band’s future recently, revealing the band’s plan to record a double album. Corey Taylor, the band’s frontman, has stated that the band is doing “nothing” since they came off of a tour in 2016.
The band’s struggles revolve around their record label being sold, leading to disarray among band members.
Crahan announced that the band has been writing and getting together every few months, with 27 pieces of work available and seven or eight works “completed.” The band toured for a period of three years all while writing and recording.
The band will meet again in September 2017 to start adding to their current works and complete more of the 27 pieces of music that remain unfinished.
The band is considering releasing a double album and a concept album.
Band members have said that the band will “probably not” tour until their next album is finished.
The band last toured in 2016 in both the European Tour and the North America Summer Tour. The band is also a key part of Knotfest, which it has joined since 2012. Knotfest was created by Slipknot as a two-city event that features an array of bands.
Knotfest will be in Mexico in 2017, with performances by Korn, Tech N9ne, Taking Back Sunday, Stone Sour, Cerberus, Anthrax and several other bands.
