Two of hip hop’s biggest artists are joining forces to co-headline one of the biggest tours of summer 2014: Drake vs. Lil Wayne. The tour will hit 31 cities in seven weeks and is on track to be the most expensive hip hop tour this summer. The co-headlining tour kicks off in August in New York and visits White River Amphitheater in September.
Fans who buy VIP pre-sale tickets will get some special perks including a hat, a Lil Wayne beach towel, a tote bag and trading cards. Yes – Lil Wayne and Drake are giving out trading cards for the tour.
Lil Wayne has yet to release his highly anticipated album Carter V, but fans are hoping to catch a preview of his new work on the tour. Lil Wayne released his hit “Believe Me” which features Drake in May of 2014. This is the first single off the Carter V album and there’s no doubt it will be on the tour’s set list.
The name of the tour “Drake vs. Lil Wayne” gives the impression that the tour will be more of battle between the two hip hop stars with both artists performing on stage together instead of separate sets.
Lil Wayne started his career in 1991 at the age of nine. He was the youngest Cash Money Records member and joined rapper Lil’ Doogie in the duo The B.G.’z. His solo debut album, released in 1999, was certified platinum. Lil Wayne’s sixth studio album The Carter III was his most successful to date having sold more than one million copies in the United States during its first week of release. The album produced his most famous hits “Lollipop,” “Got Money,” and “A Milli.”
Drake first rose to fame as a rapper in 2009 after the release of his EP So Far Gone. The Cash Money Records rapper has sold more than 5 million albums worldwide and has won one Grammy award, 3 Juno Awards and 6 BET Awards.
